After finishing second at the recent Midwest Divisional championship of the Womens Blue Chip Basketball League (WBCBL) post-season docket, the St. Louis Surge had to wait with baited breath to see if it would receive an at-large berth to the governing bodys eight-team national tournament held two weekends from now.
The locals can now exhale a sigh of relief as it has obtained a coveted slot and now possesses an opportunity to re-enter its extension of the playoffs fully re-charged.
This week, the Surge (10-2) received entry to the WBCBLs finale, held in San Antonio, Texas on August 6-7, netted the tourneys seventh seed and faces second-seeded Conyers Rockets (9-2) in Saturday mornings quarterfinal round.
St. Louis, the WBCBLs 2014 national champs and last years national runner-up, fell to Flyers Pro Elite, 91-76, at last Saturdays Midwest tourney finale held at UMSLs Mark Twain Building.
However, the slate is wiped completely clean and the Surge now receives newfound life. Their quarterfinal opponent, the Georgia-based Conyers Rockets, topped the standings of the WBCBLs Smoky Mountain Division.
