Propelled by a fourth quarter rally, the St. Louis Surge topped the Iowa Force 78-66 Saturday at UMSL’s Mark Twain Building for its fifth straight win.

St. Louis (6-1) is currently in a first-place with Flyers Elite (6-1) in the Mid-West Division of the Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League (WBCBL). Both teams face each other for standings supremacy this Saturday at 7:05 pm at UMSL.

The Surge powered its way to a 22-15 lead after the first quarter but Iowa (2-4) constructed a 21-15 frame in the second and trailed by a solo point, 37-36, at intermission.

The Force’s slight edge in scoring carried over into the third quarter and, thanks to its 17-15 output, possessed a 53-52 lead heading into the final stanza.

The Surge responded with a 26-13 push in the second half’s back half and secured the dozen point victory for its fifth straight. St. Louis had a trio of players net double-digits with Rebecca Harris’ 18 points leading the ledger.

This Saturday’s game against Flyers Elite for the top spot in the WBCBL Midwest will be a re-match from five weeks ago, where the Surge won 76-74.

Adult tickets are $8 while students are $5. The event is promoted as “Heroes Night” where all active and retired military and public service personnel will receive a $3 discount.  Children five and under are free and youths wearing their local hoops jerseys also receive complimentary admission.
