With a pair of road wins this past weekend, the St. Louis Surge women’s professional basketball franchise improved its record to 3-1 in the Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League (WBCBL).

In its two-game tilt against Mid West Division rivals, the Surge topped the Iowa Force Saturday, 94-72, and snagged a 76-74 nail biter over Flyers Elite Sunday.

Saturday’s battle against the Force in Urbandale, Iowa saw St. Louis post a dominant 55-30 lead at halftime. The third quarter saw the hostesses outscore the Surge, 24-19, but St. Louis maintained a 74-54 lead heading into the final frame.

In the fourth quarter, Surge scoring edged the Force, 20-18, and record the 94-72 duke for its second win of the season.

Sunday’s road showdown in Elsberry, Missouri against Flyers Elite, the WBCBL 2013 National Champion, saw St. Louis sport a 48-36 lead at intermission.

Both teams tussled in the second half and the Elite narrowed the score to 61-51 heading into the fourth quarter. The Elite rallied late but the Surge was able to stave the comeback and post the 76-74 triumph for its third victory of the season.

St. Louis currently sits in second place in the six-team WBCBL Mid West Division behind undefeated Nebraska (3-0).

The Surge takes the upcoming weekend off and continues play against cross-state, divisional foe Kansas City (1-2) on June 4 for its final road game of the regular season. St. Louis then hosts six straight games at UMSL’s Mark Twain Building beginning June 11 against Nebraska.
