(ST. LOUIS, MO)  The St. Louis Surge women’s professional basketball franchise improved to 8-1 on the season with a 95-72 victory over Cleveland Crush Saturday night at UMSL’s Mark Twain Building.

The 23-point triumph gave the current Mid-West Division leader of the Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League (WBCBL) its seventh straight win.

Leading 21-12 after one quarter, the Surge netted a 28-15 advantage in the second en route to a 49-27 lead at intermission.

St. Louis topped Cleveland (1-3) in the third frame 23-15 and possessed a 72-42 lead heading into the fourth. The Crush chipped away at the differential down the stretch but the Surge cruised away with win that maintained its undefeated streak at home this season (4-0).

Three Surge players collected double-digits scoring, paced by Shanity James’ 13 points followed by a dozen each from Michala Johnson and Jaleesa Butler.

The Surge returns to the UMSL hard court Saturday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. against Kansas City.
