Miho J. Tanaka, MD

Dr. Tanaka grew up in Los Angeles, CA and West Des Moines, IA. She completed her undergraduate degree at Stanford University, where she was a member of the Varsity Track and Field team, and her medical degree at New York Medical College. Her orthopedic residency was at #1-ranked Johns Hopkins Hospital, followed by a fellowship in sports medicine at Hospital for Special Surgery, the world’s leading orthopedic institution, and Cornell University School of Medicine in New York City. Her fellowship training included the latest in arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgical techniques for sports injuries, with a special emphasis on patellofemoral disorders. She brings her world class training and skilled focus to St. Louis to direct the Women’s Sports Medicine Initiative (WSMI) at Regeneration Orthopedics.

Dr. Tanaka currently serves as associate team physician for the St. Louis Cardinals, and has previously served as assistant team physician for the Baltimore Orioles and the NY Liberty of the WNBA, as well as for Johns Hopkins University, St. John’s University and Lafayette High School in Brooklyn, NY. She has experience in treating athletes of all levels, from professional to high school teams. As a former athlete herself, Dr. Tanaka understands her patients’ passion for sports and shares their commitment to excellence. She has published or presented over 30 articles and book chapters and continues to publish and present research on the biomechanics and surgical outcomes in the knee and shoulder. She emphasizes patient education and evidence-based treatment as the foundation of patient care, and treats all sports-related injuries of the shoulder, knee and elbow, with special emphasis on problems of the patellofemoral joint.

Medical Consultant

Dr. Teresa Knight, MD

Dr. Knight is a board certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Born and raised in Northern California, Dr. Knight completed her undergraduate education at U.C. Berkeley, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Integrative Biology and a minor in Women’s Studies. While attending college she received recognition for her contribution to the development of a traveling health clinic for the homeless and for perinatal services for homeless women. Dr Knight earned a Master’s degree in Anatomy and Neurobiology from Saint Louis University where she also attended Medical School. She completed her residency at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis. In addition to her medical accomplishments, Dr Knight speaks Spanish and she is a licensed pilot.

Dr Knight currently is a practicing Ob/Gyn and is the CEO of Women’s Health Specialists of Saint Louis. In addition to her medical practice, Dr Knight has contributed to the development of medical technology as a consultant for Neodiagnostix, the Gynecology Advisor of Endostim and as a scientific advisor for Peak Surgical. Dr Knight is the current Medical Director for the Family Planning Clinic of Franklin County and for Unite The World With Africa and has worked in Tanzania providing women’s health training for medical providers. Dr Knight is sought after as a national speaker. She is a national speaker for Myriad Genetics and currently makes a monthly appearance on Great Day Saint Louis. She has been featured on “Birthday”, a Discovery Health Channel program and has made an appearance on NBC Nightly News. She was also the co-host of Body Language, a national radio program. Dr Knight is passionate about women’s health and she sees her career as a privilege. She enjoys the opportunity to educate women about their bodies, in particular about hormonal changes that occur throughout each month and throughout the lifetime. It is Dr Knight’s hope that through her contributions, she can help women everywhere be better educated, in better health, and empowered.

Concussion Specialist

Dr. Tammy Martielli

Dr. Martielli founded the Neuropsychology Center of St. Louis in 2010 in order to utilize her training and skills in neuropsychological assessment to serve clients across the lifespan, with special interest in pediatric populations. Dr. Martielli received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Anthropology from Washington University in St. Louis and received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Saint Louis University. She completed an internship in Neuropsychology at the University of California - San Diego and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Neuropsychology at Washington University School of Medicine. Athletic Trainer

Steph Mclain

Steph is a Certified Athletic Trainer serving as a Physician Extender to Dr. Tanaka. She grew up in the St. Charles area and graduated from the University of Central Missouri with a degree in Athletic Training. Steph has completed additional research in ACL prevention as well as sports psychology. Previously she has worked with both the men’s and women’s basketball teams at John F Kennedy High School and has covered a multitude of additional sports including professional rodeo. As a part of the Woments Sports Medicine Initiative Steph is able to use her skills in preventive medicine to teach team programs.
