Carl Givens will come back with the St. Louis Surge as the strength and conditioning coach for the 2023 season. This will be Givens’ third year with the Surge.
Givens is the owner of Given100, a fitness gym in St. Louis started 11 years ago. Through his work, he has coached a wide range of sports from basketball and football to soccer players and gymnasts.
Khalia Collier offered Givens the opportunity to work with the team in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic forced a cancellation of the season. Now, in his third year, Givens wants to continue building on the base he has with the team.
“I think the team enjoys working with me and I enjoy working with them,” Givens said. “I think it’s a great relationship because I am extremely competitive as I was once an athlete and we merge really well. It’s a relationship that has gotten better over time and I hope will continue to grow.”
Givens is a St. Louis native and graduate of Chaminade College Preparatory High School where he played football. He went on to play football collegiately at Westminster College in Fulton, MO.
After college, Givens coached football at Chaminade and Clayton High School. He is currently coaching at St. Louis Priory High School along with running his gym.
Givens, who also owns his own landscaping business, is a brand Legacy Brand Ambassador. He is married to Danielle Givens and father of Eleanor Grace Givens and Carl Michael Givens III.
