The St. Louis Surge proudly announced today the newest member of their coaching staff for the 2018 season, Robert Kennedy, as an assistant coach/player development coordinator. He joins head coach, Tony Condra,  and assistant coach Gabriella Green.  As a former high school, college, and international professional basketball player, Kennedy’s dynamic understanding of the game, and ability to be an effective team player makes him a great addition to the St. Louis Surge family.

Kennedy, began his coaching career in 2013 being a volunteer coach for the St. Louis Eagles organization in St. Louis, Mo and currently still coaches with the program.  From 2013-2016, he served as the Head Coach of Boys Junior Varsity at Hazelwood East High School and as one of the Varsity Assistant Coaches of the program.

An Illinois native, Kennedy played Power Forward and Center for Venice & Madison high school. From 2003-2007, he continued playing at both Mineral Area Community College and Murray State University. In 2008, Kennedy,  played professional basketball in the World Basketball Association (WBA) with the Memphis Blues in Memphis, TN and the Electrico Futebol Clube in Ponte de Sor, Portugal. After taking a year off to complete his undergraduate at Murray State, Kennedy finished his Bachelor’s degree in May, 2009. In 2010, he played in the Canadian Basketball League in Shanghai, China.

“As a family we are excited to have Coach Kennedy join our program,” said Khalia Collier, Owner and General Manager of the St. Louis Surge. “The chemistry of our staff is equally important as the structure of our roster. We believe Rob is the right person to help us achieve our goals. We are blessed to have a strong staff leading us into the upcoming season.” Coach Kennedy appears to be just as excited to be part of this ever-growing franchise, “joining the St. Louis Surge is a great opportunity and being a part of a winning organization says a lot about how the St. Louis Surge approaches every season with a winning attitude”.
