St. Louis Surge Owner and General Manager, Khalia Collier, was recently profiled and interviewed by Andrea Henderson reporter for St. Louis Public Radio (an NPR member station) where she covers race, identity and culture as part of the public radio collaborative Sharing America.
Henderson had an opportunity to follow Collier and her story for three weeks before breaking the story. Joining Collier, Henderson had an opportunity to really get a behind-the-scenes look at Collier’s day-to-day business activities and community impact.
Henderson joined Collier for Surge 2019 tryouts, team meetings, front office meetings, and a speaking engagement for a group of teens at Wyman, a nonprofit organization who empower teens from economically disadvantaged circumstances to lead successful lives and build strong communities.
Collier says that Henderson truly made it easy to tell her story.
“I don’t think that I could have worked with a better in-tune reporter,” said Collier. “She had a great understanding and focus on community impact, as well as understood the business of sports and how it related back to the Surge.”
