ST. LOUIS (May 12, 2020) – The St. Louis Surge Professional Basketball team, a member of the Global Women’s Basketball Association (GWBA), has suspended its 2020 season due to the coronavirus pandemic, officials announced today. Despite canceling the season, the St. Louis Surge has partnered with the Women’s Creative, Lusso/2Lu and #314Together to launch the “We Will Play Again” streetwear campaign.

The GWBA 2020 season was scheduled to begin the first week of May with the St. Louis Surge’s first home game slated for June 6 at Washington University’s Field House.

“As developments continue to emerge regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, including the extension of social distancing guidelines we, unfortunately, have to suspend our 2020 season,” said Khalia Collier, Owner and General Manager of the Surge. “However, we are excited to launch the campaign with incredible partners showcasing our commitment to our community.”

The “We Will Play Again” campaign will kick off at 7:00 PM on May 12 with the release of an exclusive #314Together We Will Play Again t-shirt. Surge staff, players and key influencers will take to social media to showcase the exclusive t-shirts.

Proceeds from t-shirt sales will benefit the St. Louis Surge Community Impact Fund, a component fund of the St. Louis Community Foundation, who’s mission is to provide funding and programming to underserved youth. The Fund will allow the Surge to provide sports equipment and athletic necessities to kids who do not have immediate or direct access to sports facilities this summer.

“At a time when the need is even greater, we are staying focused on the community and our youth,” said Collier. “There are hundreds of kids at home right now with little or no access to sports equipment and it’s important we keep athletic activities accessible for youth so they remain healthy, active and motivated.”

T-shirts will be sold for $24 and stickers for $5 will be available for purchase on Tuesday at Shop2Lu.com.

The St. Louis Surge will continue to monitor the outbreak, but their focus continues to be the health and safety of players, fans, and staff. In the meantime, all players are continuing to train and condition and develop from home.

The St. Louis Surge continues to send our thoughts and prayers to our players, fans, and all of those in the community impacted by COVID-19 and are grateful to our front-line essential works and first-responders who are working tirelessly on the front lines.
