Have you met Khalia? If not, you should.
Khalia Collier is the gorgeous, charismatic, dynamic leader and owner of the St. Louis Surge, St. Louis’ ONLY Pro Basketball team.
We came together last fall – excited to meet a woman who is leading in the sports world, and to work on some elevated merchandise for her followers and her ‘Power Surge Supporters’. 5 minutes in and we were HOOKED! I mean, we love her, we want to make ALL her merch, we want season tickets, we want to introduce everyone we know to the 2X National Champion team. That kind of HOOKED.
Fast Forward to Covid-19 – We stop whining over our lack of sports in St. Louis and start thinking about a new T-Shirt campaign. WE WILL PLAY AGAIN. (hey we’re nothing if not optimists!) Now, Khalia is already ordering her #314TOGETHER shirts, and talking it up around town, her season just got shut down, we’re all sad and BAM we realize The Surge is the perfect ‘home team’ to launch our campaign. So here we are! (and hey, how fun is watching someone play basketball in the middle of Grand)
Here’s the scoop:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
St. Louis Surge Professional Basketball Team Suspends 2020 Season Due to Coronavirus Pandemic; Launches “We Will Play Again” Campaign
ST. LOUIS (May 12, 2020) – The St. Louis Surge Professional Basketball team, a member of the Global Women’s Basketball Association (GWBA), has suspended its 2020 season due to the coronavirus pandemic, officials announced today. Despite canceling the season, the St. Louis Surge has partnered with 2Lu/Lusso, the Women’s Creative, Experience Booklet and #314Together to launch the “We Will Play Again” streetwear campaign.
The GWBA 2020 season was scheduled to begin the first week of May with the St. Louis Surge’s first home game slated for June 6 at Washington University’s Field House.
“As developments continue to emerge regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, including the extension of social distancing guidelines we, unfortunately, have to suspend our 2020 season,” said Khalia Collier, Owner and General Manager of the Surge. “However, we are excited to launch the campaign with incredible partners showcasing our commitment to our community.”
The “We Will Play Again” campaign will kick off at 7:00 PM on May 12 with the release of an exclusive #314Together We Will Play Again t-shirt. Surge staff, players, and key influencers will take to social media to showcase the exclusive t-shirts.
Proceeds from t-shirt sales will benefit the St. Louis Surge Community Impact Fund, a component fund of the St. Louis Community Foundation, whose mission is to provide funding and programming to underserved youth. The Fund will allow the Surge to provide sports equipment and athletic necessities to kids who do not have immediate or direct access to sports facilities this summer.
“At a time when the need is even greater, we are staying focused on the community and our youth,” said Collier. “There are hundreds of kids at home right now with little or no access to sports equipment and it’s important we keep athletic activities accessible for youth, so they remain healthy, active and motivated.”
T-shirts will be sold for $24 and stickers for $5 will be available for purchase on Tuesday at Shop2Lu.com.
The St. Louis Surge will continue to monitor the outbreak, but their focus continues to be the health and safety of players, fans, and staff. In the meantime, all players are continuing to train and condition and develop from home.
The St. Louis Surge continues to send our thoughts and prayers to our players, fans, and all of those in the community impacted by COVID-19 and are grateful to our front-line essential works and first responders who are working tirelessly on the front lines.
