St. Louis Trailblazer and Sports Entrepreneur Khalia Collier Joins St. Louis CITY SC
Dear St. Louis Surge Fans & Community,
For many people, they will be surprised that soccer was my first sport and basketball was my first love. Growing up playing both club soccer and select basketball-shaped me into the competitor and leader I am today.
I am excited to announce that I have transitioned into the role of Vice-President of Community Relations for our new Major League Soccer (MLS) team, the St. Louis City SC. Soccer is where I learned teamwork, perseverance, and decision making, that I then applied to the game of basketball where I learned to be ambitious, to embrace the true meaning of sportsmanship, how to overcome obstacles and adversity, and how to apply the fundamentals of the game to life.
My competitive nature then drove me to the business of sports, but more importantly the humanness of sports. The athletic world, often divided, has a unique but important connective tissue that truly binds people and communities together, both across and within societies.
To be a part of two dream teams, first as owner and general manager of the St. Louis Surge and now under the leadership of the first majority female-owned club in MLS. I am truly honored to be a part of making history once again. As a St. Louisian, I am beyond excited to share my acceptance of this new role, as well as remaining the owner of the St. Louis Surge. With this new role and my ownership comes the opportunity for the city of St. Louis and beyond to unify through the power of sports.
My commitment to my city and the Surge remains unmatched. I will continue to uphold and uplift the Surge brand, but I have been working diligently to grow the front office team and empower staff to take on key leadership positions within the franchise. In addition to creating a succession plan scaled for growth and opportunity for brand expansion.
It should come as no surprise that this is a true WIN-WIN not only for me, but for the Surge, MLS, and the City of St. Louis. I will continue to walk in my purpose and lead through my passion of truly leading with intentional, inclusive, and equitable actions for our community.
Though the Surge will no longer have me as General Manager, I know that the team and organization is in great hands to continue the growth of women’s professional basketball in St. Louis.
Stay tuned for new leadership announcements soon! Thank you for your continued support of the St. Louis Surge and for your new support of the St. Louis City SC!
Khalia Collier
