Seven Home Games Slated for 2021 Season Set to Begin June 12 at Fontbonne University

(ST. LOUIS, May 26, 2021) – The St. Louis Surge announced today that Duez Henderson has been named General Manager (GM) and Head Coach for the St. Louis Surge. In this role, Henderson will oversee daily business operations along with serving as head coach. The Surge will begin its 2021 season against the Flint Monarchs June 12 at 6:05 p.m. at Fontbonne University in St. Louis. Henderson serves as the current assistant women’s basketball coach at Washington University in St. Louis.

“Last year, the city of St. Louis, our entire sports community and ultimately Surge fans missed out on what could have been a phenomenal season,” said Khalia Collier, Owner of the St. Louis Surge. “Although the season was put on pau, it didn’t stop us from preparing for 2021. The downtime provided ample time to transition Duez into his dual role as general manager and head coach.”

Along with his role as GM, Henderson will also serve as head coach of the Surge and will be instrumental in player recruitment, development and designing a championship-winning team.

“We are hard at work preparing for the season home opener. While the last 14 months have been challenging it is also important to note we’ve found ways to grow during this time,” said Henderson. “As an organization – from management, coaches and to players – it has given us a chance to recharge, refocus and re-energize for the 2021 season.”

2021 Surge Schedule Modified for Home Games Due to Pandemic Restrictions

Beginning in June, Fontbonne University will be the single home site for all Surge home games, practices and housing.

The Surge will move forward with the upcoming season, staggering fan attendance and limiting the first two home games to season ticket holders only (first come, first served), with a maximum attendance of 300 fans, to observe social distancing and building capacity guidelines.

Season Tickets must be purchased in advance online at www.stlsurgebasketball.com. Tickets will not be sold at the door for home games.

Due to the fluid situation resulting from the pandemic, staff, fans and players will continue to review the appropriate health and safety protocols and make necessary changes throughout the season. At this time, we are requiring that all staff and fans wear masks when attending home games. The top priority continues to be the health and safety of players, staff, and fans. The Surge will continue to monitor reports from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

All home games will be streamed at STLSURGEBASKETBALL.COM
