Neiman Marcus X St. Louis Surge collaborated on an exclusive launch event that was held on May 17th, 2022 at the Neiman Marcus store located in Plaza Frontenac. This invite only event was promoted to highlight the two-time National Champions for their 10th Anniversary season. Guests included the Surge sponsors of Neiman Marcus, The Only Lifestyle, Lusso, Adam Foster Fine Jewelry, St. Louis Community Foundation, and Divine Events. Other special guests were Olympic Gold Medalist Dawn Harper-Nelson, Miss Missouri USA Mikayla McGhee, and friends and family of the team. The event consisted of a fashion show, a Surge pop-up shop, a silent auction, and an official red carpet moment. Additionally, there were mini-appetizers, specialty drinks, and original music created by local DJ Chris Brown. Neiman Marcus both graciously hosted The Surge and their guests and helped style the models that strutted the runway.
Headlining this event was one of a kind Surge Apparel that was handcrafted by the Only Lifestyle Fashion House designer Kyle “Q” Collier. Amongst other amazing pieces, Kyle created hand painted jean jackets and items that combined jackets with Surge Jerseys. In addition to displaying all designs, the Surge pop-up shop featured merch produced by LUSSO, a woman owned luxury brand for licensed sports teams. Alongside these amazing companies, Adam Foster Fine Jewelry designed unique gold pieces, further strengthening the Surge appreciation theme.
The fashion show was the highlight of the night with models from both Mpression Modeling Agency and West Model & Talent Management showcasing both high end clothes items from Neiman Marcus and the companies mentioned above. Emmy Nominated and TV show host Tammie Holland hosted the fashion show with blissful and engaging commentary that pulled the show together. The runway had a surprise in store for the audience with the appearance of four current Surge players consisting of Osh Brown, Brittany Cater, Kelsey McClure, and Sug Sutton to walk the runway as well. While Osh, Brittany, Kelsey, and Sug are known stars on the basketball court, here they shined their light on the fashion stage as powerful, elegant, uplifting representatives of female hoopers. 10% of the sales made May 17th through May 19th were donated to the Boys & Girls Club of America in St. Louis.
The Surge is the only professional basketball team located in the St. Louis area and one of four teams playing in the Global Women’s Basketball Association League. Khalia Collier, the team owner, spoke at the event and shared her hopes for this team and her vision of success for the upcoming 2022 season. Khalia shared some perspective and humor when looking back at recent seasons, stating “We have played in seven National Championship games and lost three by only 1 point. I can guarantee you all that we won’t lose again this year”. The night ended nicely with some light conversation that guests shared with the members of the Surge team and staff. With a revamped coaching staff and a fresh young player roster (with eight new players), the St. Louis Surge look to follow through on Khalia’s vision in their upcoming home opener against the Wisconsin GLO.
The home opener will be played on June 18th at the Washington University in St. Louis Field Complex. Surge 2022 season passes and general admission tickets can be purchased on the Surge website before game days.
