(ST. LOUIS, June 8, 2022) – Over this past weekend, the St. Louis Surge traveled to Michigan to battle it out against the Detroit Queens and the Flint Monarchs on their home courts. Saturday’s game against the Queens tipped off at 2 PM and the Queens brought the intensity from the start. Detroit jumped to an early lead and seemed to be in control of the game. However, the Surge weathered the storm by rallying behind Osh Brown’s rebounds and bounced back to gain a 12 point lead. Unfortunately, the Queens recovered with two threes and were quickly back in the game. Both teams went punch for punch for the majority of the second half that left the crowd on the edge of their seats. At the end of the fourth quarter, the Queens put a full court pressure on the Surge, causing two turnovers and scoring two easy buckets. Despite Brittany Carter and Sug Sutton drilling late game 3-point baskets, the Surge were ultimately unable to overcome the Queens physicality. After a nail-biting and hard-fought battle, the St. Louis Surge simply ran out of time and ended the game with a close 4 point loss. Final score: Queens- 85 Surge- 81.

The St. Louis Surge were ready for redemption after Saturday’s game. The Surge tipped off against the Flint Monarchs at 2 PM and led by Assistant Coach Jerome Douglas, brought a vastly increased intensity and energy to this game. The team’s Sunday success began with their defense. Led by Brittany Carter, who had a game-high 4 steals, the Surge converted stops, deflections, and turnovers into 14 fast break points. Sug Sutton, Jacqlyn Poss, and Osh Brown (a perfect 5/5 from the field) all scored double-digits for the Surge. The collective scoring of Sutton, Poss, and Brown combined with the team’s press and subsequent transition baskets fueled a 12 point lead early in the second half. Unlike Saturday, the Surge ensured this 12 point lead was here to stay. Foot on the gas, the Surge controlled the rest of the game and led until the final buzzer. The Surge team was very excited to bask in the glory of a win. Final score: Surge- 83 Monarchs- 75.

Get ready for a season full of fighting and rising!!
