(ST. LOUIS, July 25, 2022) – The St. Louis Surge played against their toughest competition again this season, the Wisconsin GLO. The Surge hosted “314 Night”, which highlighted everything STL and gave out free STL merchandise for fans to claim. With the stands packed, the game started at 4:05PM with Michelle Berry winning the tip. The first half was a close nail biter (like the whole game), with the GLO gaining 28 points to the Surge’s 24. The second quarter is where the Surge buckled down to outscore the GLO with 18 points compared to GLO’s 16. After halftime, the crowd was pumped and ready to cheer for the home team. Surge fell one point short in the third quarter with the GLO gaining 28 points to the Surges 27. Finally, the fourth quarter is where the energy in the stands got insane. The Surge scored 32 points this period with GLO making 28. With under a minute left in the game, it consisted of fouling, time-outs, and on the edge of your seats content.

With 2.3 seconds left in the game, the Surge called a time-out to plan their offensive attack after winning the last jump ball. At this time the score was 99-100 GLO. With the ball being thrown in right in front of the Surge bench by Brittany Carter, the plan was to hit Akela Maize under the basket or Sug Sutton off the screen at the top of the court. Carter decides to throw into Sug Sutton who came off the screen at the top of the key. After taking one dribble towards the basket while being guarded by Taylor Wutz (GLO guard), Sutton pulled up right above the right corner of the free throw line. Half a second after leaving her hands, the buzzer goes off and the basketball sinks into the net. This led to a rush onto the court by the Surge players, fans, staff, and coaches as Sug Sutton took a victory lap around her home court.

Leading scorers were Sug Sutton with 31 points then Kelsey McClure and Shug Dickson both with 19 points. Close behind was Osh Brown with a total of 18 points overall. Osh Brown led the team in most rebounds with Michelle Berry hard on her heels with 6 rebounds. Sug Sutton went 6/6 from the free throw line making her shooting percentage for free throw 100%. The Surge sank 8 three-pointers this game gaining 24 points out of their 101.

The game was close till the very end with the score being tied 12 times within the game and 19 lead changes in 200 minutes. The final score of the game was 101-100 Surge.
