Emmonnie Henderson will be coming back to play with the St. Louis Surge after a hiatus from the sport. The East St. Louis native went to the University of Louisville where she majored in civil engineering. She averaged 5.8points per game and 4 rebounds per game for Louisville receiving ACC All-Freshman team.
Henderson was also highly competitive in track and field at Louisville. She was an ACC conference champ in the shot put. This earned her 1st team All-ACC honors and the Women’s Field MVP. She also earned 2nd team All-American honors placing 13th in the NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships for shot put and All-American honors for discus.
In high school, Henderson was the all time leading scorer for Edwardsville High School scoring 1,806 points in her career. Belleville News Democrat named her the Player of the Year as she received All-State honors with 15.1 points per game and 8 rebounds per game. She led Edwardsville to a 30-1 record her senior year. With Edwardsville, she has won three sectional titles, four Southwestern Conference Champs and was a runner up in the state championship for Illinois. Along with these achievements on the court, Henderson was a three time state champion in the shot put and two time state champion in the discus for Edwardsville’s track and field team. She set a state record in the shot put, throwing 50’9.5”. Her marks ranked her sixth in the nation for the shot put while she was also ranked seventh in the nation for the discus. Edwardsville has placed Henderson in their school’s Hall of Fame for her achievements.
Henderson also operates her own construction company called E.L. Henderson Construction.
