St. Louis native, Renetha “Shug” Dickson, will be returning for her second season with the St. Louis Surge.
Graduating from Lutheran North High School as one of the top players in St. Louis, Dickson attended and left her mark at multiple universities. She went to the University of Tulsa where she averaged 14.1 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. She was the first freshman in history at Tulsa to score 20 or more points in three consecutive games. In her freshman season, she was ranked second on the team in points and assists with 266 points and 51 assists. She was also ranked third in rebounds with 108 rebounds on the season. While playing for Tulsa, Dickson was selected for the American All-Freshman team and invited to USA Basketball U19 World Cup Team Trails.
Dickson also attended the University of Missouri. During her time at Mizzou, Dickson was ranked seventh in the SEC for averaging 4 assists per game. She was also scoring 10 points per game and 2.9 rebounds per game at Mizzou. She also played for Texas Tech University and finished her collegiate career at Rutgers University.
Prior to her collegiate career, Dickson was the 25th ranked recruit by ESPNW HoopGurlz at Lutheran North. She was a three time All-Conference honoree and All-State for Missouri Class 3A. Averaging 24.8 points per game and 3.8 assists per game, she was selected by the St. Louis American as a Co-Player of the Year in her senior season.
The 5’10” guard returns with the Surge after averaging 18.3 points per game and 3.5 assists per game in the 2022 season. She also snatched 4.0 rebounds per game.
